During a recent visit, HE Andrew Patrick, met with Mr. Ganesh, an Indian returnee who now runs a thriving agricultural plot. They discussed his journey of #resilience amid the #economic crisis, the challenges he's overcome, and the new #opportunities he’s now seizing.
The visit continued to the inspiring tailor shop of Mr. and Mrs. Kalaiselvan, a non-verbal couple, who expressed their deep #gratitude for the support they received. Thanks to the EDRR project, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP #lka & IOM Sri Lanka and Maldives together with the Government of Sri Lanka with funding from the United Nations Sri Lanka #SDG Fund, funded by the Governments of Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka, British High Commission Colombo, U.S. Embassy Colombo, Sri Lanka & Canada, which provided them with essential training & resources, their #business has flourished.
The visit took place in the Kuchavelli DS, where 24 beneficiaries received vital #support through the EDRR project. A focus group discussion was later organized at the Gopalapuram RDS building, bringing together the Divisional Secretary, UNDP #lka representatives, OFERR partner staff & the project #beneficiaries.
This visit not only showcased the tangible impact of the #EDRR project but also underscored how crucial support, skills & resilience can drive #sustainable livelihoods, even in the face of adversity. It was a chance to engage directly with beneficiaries and understand their progress, their aspirations, and their ongoing needs for a brighter #future.
